The Basset Hound was first seen in engravings in Egypt and were used for hunting in both Ancient Greece and Rome. They have always been very commonly used for hunting due to their keen sense of smell.
Known for their extremely large ears and droopy faces, the basset hound is an all around friendly breed. They are excellent with children and make great family pets. When outside, a leash is recommended because of their hunting instincts. They are very vocal and might howl or bark to alert their owner of anything. They are very loyal dogs and love to please.
