The bulldog is a great dog. While it’s masculine exterior may be intimidating, this is one of the most gentle breeds. Very affectionate and loyal, the bulldog makes a great dog for the family, even with smaller children. This breed can be stubborn and persistent meaning they need an owner with a lot of patience and strong leadership. When young, this breed is very energetic and rambunctious but they do become more docile as they grow older. They generally live as long as eight years, some shorter or longer than others.
The Bulldog originated in Britain and was given it’s name due to its use in bull baiting. Some say it even looks similar to a bull. They were fought in arena combats before it was banned in the 19th century.
